Join us Sunday, October 18 at 10:00 AM for WELCA Sunday, a celebration of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The women of Mt. Horeb will lead our entire worship service, and we are honored to welcome the Rev. Jacqueline Utley as our guest pastor.
About Pastor Utley
The Rev. Jacqueline “Jackie” Utley is a native of Lake View, S.C. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Coker College and a Master of Divinity from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia. Raised in the Pentecostal and AME traditions, she served for years as an evangelist missionary and was ordained for chaplaincy in the Church of God in Christ in 2011.
In June 2013, Pastor Jackie made history as the first African American ordained as a rostered leader of the South Carolina Synod of the ELCA. She was installed as the first African American and first female pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church in Columbia, where she has helped the congregation grow into a multicultural worshipping community.
All are welcome. We hope you’ll join us!
