On September 30, 2025, Lutheran Services of the Carolinas closed the Women’s Recovery Program at Kinard Manor, and Restoration Chapel stepped in to take over operations, repairs, staffing, and all expenses to keep the ministry alive.

The program is led by Michelle Gaskins, MSW, ADC, SPSS, who has been clean and sober for 19 years and has led Narcotics Anonymous meetings at Immanuel Lutheran Church for 17 years. Michelle wrote and implemented the threephase recovery program used at Kinard Manor, with each phase lasting about 30 days.

  • The first phase is intentionally strict: residents remain onsite except for NA meetings and worship, have no cell phones, and follow a structured daily schedule of therapy, counseling, NA/AA meetings, chores, lifeskills training, devotional reading, and quiet times. During this phase, the program covers all costs for each woman as they focus fully on recovery.
  • In Phases Two and Three, residents secure fulltime employment, begin paying rent and fees, and continue participating in meetings, counseling, and house expectations. After completing the program, they may move on or remain in the supportive community they have built.

How can you help?

  • Pray for the residents and their families, the staff, and Restoration Chapel.

  • Contact Pastor Chris Christopher for immediate needs, program or facility.

  • Help to financially sponsor a resident in phase one ($200-700).

  • Contribute to the maintenance fund for Kinard Manor/Restoration Chapel.

  • Become a one-time or regular supporter through tithe.ly or USPS.

  • Sign up for our email list and receive stories and updates and share them with others.

  • Make Restoration Chapel one of your Congregation’s ministries and put them in your budget.

  • You or a group can provide a dinner meal for 8-10 women. Please coordinate with Pastor Chris.

  • Provide feminine hygiene products or funds to purchase.

  • Host a Thrivent Action Team event to raise money.

  • Come to Greenwood to meet the residents and hear their stories.

  • Restoration Chapel will also host a display table at Synod Assembly with materials and resident representatives, offering an opportunity to stop by, ask questions, and hear their stories firsthand.
